Telltale Games finally gave us some actual news on this most anticipated game. Before we get into the real fun on the news lets break down the numbers. Telltale’s Game of Thrones game will consist of six episodes, the first being titled “Iron From Ice.” There is not set date for the first episodes release. However from a previous post I talked about how we should be expecting this game within the year, and seeing that the end of the year is nearing, that means so is the game. -Whatever the case may be, I think we could expect a release date being announced within a week or two. The game will be available for PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and iOS, with apparently more platforms to be announced. Looking at that list its pretty hard to think of what other platforms their developing the game for – looking at the other games developed by Telltale I would say we can expect to see this game on the PS Vita as well.
Telltale’s announcement confirms the recent news that there will be five playable characters, all of these characters a member of House Forrester, either a direct family member or a person in service to the House. House Forrester, a house which is not seen yet been seen in the TV series, and is only briefly mentioned in the series, is described in the announcement as:
House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.
Ironrath sits on the edge of the largest ironwood forest in Westeros, which has proven to be a strategic advantage for the House. The trees are a valuable commodity; many of the best weapons, ships, and defensive structures include the use of ironwood. House Forrester controls the majority of the ironwood forests in the Wolfswood, much to the chagrin of their bitter rivals, House Whitehill.
The announcement also subtly slipped the news that this game would have point of view characters across the Narrow Sea in Essos; although I would suspect that only one point of view would be in Essos, maybe two, simply due to the fact that this game is following the events of the War of the Five Kings.
As for the scope of this game, the events will begin towards the end of season three and end right before the beginning of season five. This will make the point of view decisions very interesting, sense we know what will happen in the grand scheme of things. Although this story is not about winning the Iron Throne for House Forrester, but rather about saving their house from destruction.
I simply cannot wait to play this game. I have been a huge fan of Telltale’s Walking Dead game, and this game sounds even better. I’m interesting in seeing what five playable characters will do to the overall time of each episode. Will you play as each character in every episode, or will it be like the TV show where you might only see a portion of the point of view characters. I guess we’ll have to wait until the release of the game. So what do you think of this news? Let me know your thoughts on every below!
