George R.R. Martin Teases The Winds of Winter

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly George R.R. Martin released some information about what we can expect in the upcoming book The Winds of Winter. Now of course if you have only watched the show do not click below the break;  And for those of you who have read the books but don’t want any hints as to what we can expect in the future of the series, don’t click below the break.  Everyone else, enjoy!

George confirms that the beginning of the book will start off with two battles.  This of course has been speculated, and even slightly seen in some of The Winds of Winter sample chapters.  Those two battles will be the Battle in the North, and the Battle of Meereen.

I think we’re gonna start out with a big smash with the two enormous battles

Of course, as we all know from reading, and watching, this series death is inevitable.  And with the way things left off in A Dance with Dragons we can be expecting a lot of characters to be dying in The Winds of Winter.  What I think is interesting is that George confirms more marriages.  Now there are several people George could be talking about, but I think that’s such a big topic it can be saved for an entirely separate post (check back for that).  And who do you think George is talking about with the future betrayals?

We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages

This next piece shouldn’t come as to big of a shocker, since the way we left it off with Daenerys in A Dance with Dragons.  It seems that the Dothraki will be coming back in Winds of Winter in a big way.  And that Dany will truly be embracing her Targaryen roots, and embracing the Targaryen words.

Well, Tyrion and Dany will intersect, in a way, but for much of the book they’re still apart,” he says. “They both have quite large roles to play here. Tyrion has decided that he actually would like to live, for one thing, which he wasn’t entirely sure of during the last book, and he’s now working toward that end—if he can survive the battle that’s breaking out all around him. And Dany has embraced her heritage as a Targaryen and embraced the Targaryen words. So they’re both coming home.

This piece, which I assume many are wondering about, doesn’t get talked about to much;  And that is what’s going on at the Wall?  Well all George says is that “a lot of stuff is happening at The Wall,” so I guess we just have to take it for what it is, and wait the till the book gets released.

So what do you think about all this news about The Winds of Winter?

    • Oh lets just say when the show catches up to where A Dance with Dragons left off (which shouldn’t be to long) you’ll see why “more deaths,” won’t be a surprise. I really can’t say why without spoiling stuff for you though. But lets just say Winds of Winter is going to start off with a lot of action, and in A Song of Ice and Fire where there’s action there’s death.

Good luck with your blog! I’ll check it out sometime.

  1. Puzzling bits are Dany and Tyrion’s paths intersecting “in a way” (how intentionally vague) and “coming home”.

By “in a way” it can mean several things like them meeting in a dream /glass candle event, Dany flying over Tyrion in a battlefield maybe, Tyrion flying past a perplexed Dany (haha that would be funny), or them just being in the same room just as the book ends. The “in a way” kind of makes it sound like they won’t really talk face to face.

The “coming home” bit makes me wonder if “home” is Westeros or Valyria, any thoughts? I would hope it was Valyria only because there is so much mystery around it, and even Tyrion’s uncle’s disappearance makes it such a great spot for Tyrion to visit! Imagine Tyrion getting the Lannister sword back! I can already hear Carmina Burana playing in the background!
